Chemistry Associate, Technology & Intellectual Property (IP) Research

Chemistry Associate, Technology & Intellectual Property (IP) Research

Global Prior Art (GPA) intends to build a small team in Krakow, close to Jagiellonian University. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to build on their technical expertise while gaining exposure to new technologies, innovation, intellectual property (IP) and strategy. Founded in 1982, GPA is a specialized firm operating at the intersection of technology, innovation and patents.

Successful candidates require a strong background related to organic chemistry and pharmaceuticals with ability to quickly grasp and interpret new technical information. While previous exposure to IP is a plus, it is not essential. GPA’s training process will introduce candidates to IP, and they will acquire needed analytic skills working under a supervisor/mentor. Initial training in IP basics and regular training updates will be provided both remotely and in our Boston (US) office.

Responsibilities

  • After an initial learning period candidates will be able to conduct search and analysis to support various goals (e.g., patentability, freedom to operate, due diligence and validity analysis to support patent practitioners from law firms and biotech/pharma companies)
  • Exercise independent judgment in formulating search queries and refining search results
  • Produce project deliverables working under a group leader within defined timeline, including interactive spreadsheets, written summaries of projects, and slide-based presentations
  • Gain experience over time conducting more complex studies patent licensing diligence, IP landscapes to guide R&D and patent decisions, e.g., see IAM article on Next Generation Solar

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Advanced Degree in chemistry with coursework in organic chemistry from a leading university
  • Experience in structure-based search (SciFinder, Reaxys, etc.) is preferred
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to rapidly learn about new technical areas
  • Ability to review, analyze, and synthesize technical information
  • Knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent formats and examining procedures is a plus
